AWG- Arctic Winter Games 2008

From the 9th- 16th of March 2008, I had the pleasure of being chaperone for the Greenlandic Cultural Contingency to AWG in Yellowknife, Canada.

We were invited to the house of Cheryl Fennel. She had been asked by the city of Yellowknife to be a "friend and support to the Greenlandic contingency of 120 people. I have known Cheryl for about 10 years, as she is a fellow Bahá'í.

Cheryl mother is Dene and she asked the Cheif of the Dene community of Dettah if we could come and visit their community. We had the great honour of visiting the Dettah community, near Yellowknife and talked with the cheif and the Elders! It was fantastic experience for all concerned and gave a greater understanding of the people of the area.

Other than that the dance production and mask dance performance were well received. All in all the AWG was a wonderful experience for all of us involved in it.

San Antonio and Austin, Texas

The last two weeks have been quite amazing. I have been in San Antonio and Austin, Texas. Lars Rosing my partner and myself have interviewed and filmed my mother. She has shown us pictures of herself during her youth and told about her life and experiences.

Lars has done a fantastic job of catching moments from her everyday life. And I have had the joy of hearing her thoughts, dreams and experiences.

I hope that we can do Mamma and Alma justice in our little film about their lives!

The Prom

On the 2nd of February Alexander our son and Lea our foster daughter went to the prom. This was a special prom for both of them. It was Alexander's last prom and Lea's first. They both were beautifully dressed and I think that they had a good time.
Alexander bought a rose for his date and for Lea.

Even when you have a beautiful dress on, you wear warm clothes on the way to party....That's the way it is in the Arctic! Here is Alexander with Mathilde his date and his girlfriend!
Lea invited a girlfriend over before the dance and they got ready together. Lea had been to the beauty shop earlier in the day, so I only had to do Sara's hair.

A Film about Ida Bonnick Montgomery

Over the last two years a good friend of mine and I have been working on the manusscript for a film about two women. One being Alma Rosing Olsen, from Greenland and the other being Ida Bonnick Montgomery originally from Panamá.

The story centers around their friendship over a 10 year period. But there are other thoughts that are looked at during the film; family, love, death and friendship.

Both women were born before the Second World War and both saw the turn of the century. Both were mothers and both were brought up in christian homes.

I think that it is going to be a wonderful film about two wonderful women. I hope that it will be enjoyed, not only by their families but by others throughout the world!
If anyone has information about these two women that they would like to share with me, please leave a comment on the blog!

Workshop for Children on the Soul

The four Sundays in January, I will be conducting a workshop on the soul. My inspiration is from several fronts. I have just completed the Ruhí Book 3 on children's classes, I have conducted children's classes for over 4 years with children from several religions, and last but not least my desire to be with children in a loving, nurturing and spiritual atmosphere.

I started with the first of 4 lessons on the soul today. I had 6 children/youth to attend and it was so inspiring to talk with these young people.

After class we had a dance session where the young people learned a dance and then we had refreshments.

Next week we will be painting a collage about the soul and the week after that there will be a talking about, free will and the development of the soul.
